Cross Country Education Program
Combining my experiences as an athlete, 2-time Olympian, weightlifting 1984 and 1988, and medical professional, Physical Therapist, and Physician Assistant, I am now conducting lectures across the USA in association with the highly respected national education company, Cross Country Education, LLC. I hope to bridge the gap between the medical community that has not historically supported weight training and the increasingly active population who participates in CrossFit. As the popularity of CrossFit has increased, so has participation in the Olympic lifts: the snatch and clean & jerk. The communication disconnection between the medical community and their active patients has grown. Patients are tired of hearing that they should stop all weightlifting and other strenuous activities. They then seek other clinicians who will listen to them, and will work with them to help them get back to their activities and achieve their goals. I am quite tired of listening to my patients tell me they were told to “change their life.” I also have personal experience with this.
Because of the change of equipment in weightlifting, these movements are safely available to more people of any ability than ever before! I will educate PTs/OTs/ATCs/CSCSs/and other medical professionals regarding the nomenclature, the movements, and how they can safely teach their patients how to safely perform aspects of the Olympic lifts IN THEIR CLINIC! This will dispel the myths of weightlifting as being unsafe, as historically believed. The clinicians will gain the ability to better communicate with their active patients and keep them in their patient population.
